Ayubowan!
The verb review has been updated with some more concepts that I have covered on this blog relating to verbs. Tune in on August 1st for the next post!
This is a table of all the verb tenses that have been covered on the blog (with a few exceptions which I will post about later.) This list will be edited as I learn more ways to express ideas using verbs. Dashes indicate ideas that have not been covered yet or ideas that do not exist in Sinhala.
Next week, July 19th, I will be adding a table for the other verb modifications that did not really fit in with these tenses. Hope this is helpful and please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
I apologize for the fact that this table is too large for the blog. It seems that if I try to make the table smaller on my original document, the table becomes larger and takes up the entire space of the blog đ
I'll definitely be working on getting that fixed!

Today we will be learning about the future tense. There are two aspects to the future tense.
I am covering second in this lesson.
To reiterate, these are the two concepts:
Accepting/ Confirming that something may happen
Suggesting the possibility that something may happen
Use this link to read Lesson #52 on the first concept:
https://learnsinhalawithme.blogspot.com/2021/07/future-tense-part-1-with-certainty.html
How it’s formed
Some formations of this tense are irregular, but this is the general pattern:
Kanna -> Kayi
āļāļą්āļą -> āļāļēි
Bonna -> Boi
āļļොāļą්āļą -> āļļෝāļ
As far as I understand, i & yi (āļ & āļēි) are pronounced the same way. However, I’m not sure as to which one I should use when spelling. Let me know if any of you have any insight about this!
When can this be used?
When you are not sure if you or someone else will do something
When you are describing what someone other than yourself will do.
Examples:
Will (you) drink tea?
(Oyaa) the boida?
(āļāļēා) āļේ āļļෝāļāļ¯
He will do his work after he comes home.
Eyaa vada karayi gedarata enahama.
āļāļēා āˇැāļŠ āļāļģāļēි āļෙāļ¯āļģāļ§ āļāļąāˇāļ¸.
I might talk to her tomorrow.
Mama heta eyaata kathakarayi.
āļ¸āļ¸ āˇෙāļ§ āļāļēාāļ§ āļāļාāļāļģāļēි.
That’s it for this lesson! If you have any questions or comments, leave them down below.
From now on, I will be working on practicing the concepts that I have already posted about, so I will be uploading the material that I create as I review. Tune in on June 12th for the next post.
Thanks for reading!
Ayubowan!
Today we will be learning about the future tense. There are two aspects to the future tense.
I am covering the first today and the second in the next lesson.
These two concepts are:
Accepting/ Confirming that something may happen
Suggesting the possibility that something may happen
To form this first tense, you take yanawaa -> yannam
I will go to the store today.
Ada mama kade yannam.
āļ āļ¯ āļ¸āļ¸ āļāļŠේ āļēāļą්āļąāļ¸්.
When using this first aspect, you can only use it for things that you know for certain will
occur. This means that you can only use this aspect when it comes to talking about things
from your point of view.
This means that the following is wrong:
Dilshan will go to the store.
Dilshan kadae yannam.
āļ¯ිāļŊ්āˇාāļą් āļāļŠේ āļēāļą්āļąāļ¸්.
You are not Dilshan, so there is no way to know for sure that he is going to the store.
However this works,
(Dilshan said) Dilshan will go to the store.
Dilshan kade yannam lu.
āļ¯ිāļŊ්āˇාāļą් āļāļŠේ āļēāļą්āļąāļ¸් āļŊු.
Let’s look at a few more examples:
After we come home, we will eat rice.
Api gedarata ennahama, api bath kannam.
āļ āļ´ි āļෙāļ¯āļģāļ§ āļāļą්āļąāˇāļ¸ āļ āļ´ි āļļāļ් āļāļą්āļąāļ¸්.
In December (I) will go to Sri Lanka with my sister.
DesÃĻmbaraye mage akkath Sri Lankata yannam.
āļ¯ෙāˇැāļ¸්āļļāļģāļēේ āļ¸āļේ āļ āļ්āļāļ් āˇ්āļģී āļŊāļą්āļāļ§ āļēāļą්āļąāļ¸්.
That is all for this lesson! The second part will be posted on July 5th at 12AM PST.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them down below.
