Questions Part 2: Sinhala Grammar #25

Ayubowan!

In Lesson 5, we learned about asking where, who, and when questions. If you want
to refresh your memory of what we learned previously before we learn more,
follow this link to Lesson 5.
https://learnsinhalawithme.blogspot.com/2019/06/sinhala-grammar-5-what-when-
where-who.html

Today, we will be looking at a few more questions you can ask.

How much is this banana?
Me kesel kiyada?
මේ කෙසෙල් කියද?

Which candy do you like?
Mona kændi valata kæmathida?
මොන කැන්ඩි වලට කැමතියිද?

What time is it?
Literally: How much is the time?
Velava kiyada?
වේලාව කීයද?

When are we going?
Api kiyatada yanne?
අපිකීයටද යන්නෙ?

In Lesson 5, we learned the word kavaada, which also translates to when. Although,
kiyata(da) is also translated as when, we use it in a different context. Kiyata refers
to the time on a clock, while kavadaa refers to things relating to a calendar
(Days, Months, Years, etc.)

How old are you?
Literally: How much is your age?
Oyaage vayasa kiyada?
ඔයාගේ වයස කීයද?

Whose book is this?
Me poth kageda?
මේ පොත කාගේද?

That’s all for this lesson! As always, feel free to leave any comments,
questions, or corrections you may have in the comments below. I also
encourage you to leave suggestions for future lessons in the comments
below. Tune in for the next lesson on February 17th!

Thank you for reading!
